About this submission

It felt apocalyptic as I watched the US make the shocking (yet unsurprising) decision to overturn Roe v Wade. As an African-American woman, and a doula who has supported pregnant people during births and abortions, I see how this political decision particularly places disproportionate burdens on Black women’s reproductive health— we are already struggling given our country’s black maternal mortality crisis. I wanted to honor, and draw strength from, the sometimes forgotten histories of Black women as healers in the US and the world. This film's a love letter to Black women seeking radical hope.
