About this submission

Flowers Bloom In Darkness was a passion project for me for a multitude of reasons. It serves as a love letter to my hometown of East Brooklyn and the community of people that shaped the artists and the human being I've become. I've always seen myself as a Black filmmaker fulfilling the role of The Griot, the keeper and storyteller of African Lore. This project allowed me the opportunity to let viewers into my mind and soul; who I am and what made me. The film also serves as a eulogy to my grandmother who passed away recently.
