My thesis film, Fili, stems from my personal experience growing up in the Polynesian culture. For many people in the Samoan culture, football is seen as a rite of passage. For me, it was just another hobby. My true passion lied in film. My intention with this was to dispel the notion that football is the only way out and to show that we are capable of doing great things outside of sports. Growing up and seeing firsthand the lack of representation on screen, I hope to tell more diverse stories and shed light on underrepresented communities.
