About this submission

As a college freshman, in pursuit of a sense of community, I decided to rush a fraternity. Throughout the process, I found myself instinctually masking parts of my personality in order to feel at ease around the other gentleman. Where I initially felt like a fraud, I began to feel an odd sense of power and amusement whenever I slipped into the persona. I made Felt Wanted to explore the simultaneously alienating and empowering experience of rushing a fraternity as a sober, flamboyant, tap shoe owner-- architecting a character and thus reclaiming my otherness by becoming my own puppet.
