Chinese culture is known for being family oriented: parents give up everything for their kids expecting that their kids will become successful in life. As heartfelt as it seems on the surface, this act of selfless parental love comes with a great deal of unspoken burden to the kids. The kids are expected to be perfect, nothing less. This ideal creates a severe lack of communication between parents and their kids, hence this film throws a daughter and a father into an extreme circumstance, where they are forced to unravel their perspectives to each other.
