Hockey's often portrayed as a world for only white masculinity. In reality a diverse group of people play and watch. It's inspired by my mother. She grew up in a working class Chinese Canadian household and dreamed of playing hockey. She didn't feel accepted by the sport. She plays now at age 60, on a team with me, and is living out her childhood dream! Initially the film was for my mum to see herself represented on screen but many Asian women have come up to me and said, "This is the first time I've seen myself represented in media."
