During World War II, two Mexican-American soldiers find themselves in a lonely field stepping on landmines unable to move.
They argue among themselves, since one is sure that they will come to save them while the other, fed up with the situation and without hope, wants to lift his foot and die. Only, that being so close to each other, if the landmine of one explodes, the other's will too.
All of this revolves around an identity dilemma and the meaning of being American for the sons of migrants.
