Recommended Resources:

  • Anything written by Caity Weaver, who is the best writer working today. Her voice! She's insightful and funny and simply the best. Here's my favorite piece about all-you-can-eat day mozzarella sticks at the TGI Fridays in Red Hook: My 14-Hour Search for the End of TGI Friday's Endless Appetizers
  • High glamour & camp films of previous eras, especially musicals. I love Auntie Mame, Funny Girl, Valley of the Dolls and Bye Bye Birdie.
  • Various behind-the-scenes docs about Kubrick's 2001 - Parts of Room 237 or these Taschen books. It's inspiring to see how Kubrick & his team negotiate every little detail of the film: Room 237The Making of Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey'The Stanley Kubrick Archives
  • But the real truth when I need some inspiration is I go thrift shopping at a Unique or a big Salvation Army. I love picking through old clothes to figure out how to repurpose & restyle them. I mean, filmmaking is about having good taste & good judgement, two skills I hone while bargain hunting.
