Maxine Trump got her start in radio and television, working for seven years in program development for BBC Comedy in the UK. She emigrated to the US to become a director of television commercials and has received both Gold and Silver BDA awards for her work.
She went on to direct short documentaries for various TV networks—including TNT, Sundance Channel, TLC, ITVS—and numerous organizations. Loving the intimate storytelling style of documentaries, Maxine then moved into long-form documentary production for Discovery.
Maxine’s feature documentary, MUSICWOOD, was a New York Times Critics’ Pick, a festival award-winner, which played in theaters and on TV networks around the world. Her latest documentary on deciding whether or not to have children, TO KID OR NOT TO KID, will be released in theaters next month.
Maxine is a freelance director, documentary consultant and professor, she actively seeks out new stories to tell and enjoys helping new filmmakers bring their documentaries to life. Last year she released her first book A DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKER’S ROADMAP, published by Focal Press. Her background in comedy allows her to bring an entertaining and artistic sensibility to all of her work.
She lives in Brooklyn NY with her husband and inquisitive cat.
