James Skinner

James Skinner has over a decade of filmmaking experience that includes documentaries, animation and fiction. He has always addressed social issues through his films, and specialised in this through an MA in Media Practice for Development and Social Change (Uni. of Sussex). Most recently he has directed and co-produced 'The Last Kick' a tense drama short starring Jay Taylor (Prime Suspect 1973) and Michael Bertenshaw ( The Crown). His other fictional short films include ‘Stories from Bibatama’ (2014), a drama about child labour which was shortlisted in the UnChosen film competition and thriller ‘Jasmine’ (2015). In 2018, James directed short film ‘Rock. Paper. Scissors.’(below left), which will be included in apocalyptic feature film ‘The Impact’. He also directed ‘A Letter to Mum’ a drama about a young girl coming to terms with the death of her mother. His documentaries have explored topics such as dementia (‘Young at Art’, 2018), the Israel/Palestine conflict (‘Stars of Bethlehem’, 2015) and remote tribes in Papua New Guinea (‘Songs of Simbai’, 2016). James is currently developing his next short, as a proof of concept for his debut feature, a dystopian thriller addressing the issue of climate change.
