Deena Adar
Writer/Director/Producer
Los Angeles, California, United States
Deena Adar was a pre-law, Poli Sci major at UC Berkeley when she decided to disregard her degree completely and pursue comedy. After teaching and performing improv throughout the Bay Area, Deena moved to Los Angeles and began her writing career at The Comedy Store and The Improv, where she honed her stand-up act. She sharpened her sketch comedy writing skills at The Groundlings, Improv Olympic, and LA Connection, which led to a position as a regular contributor for Current TV’s Rotten Tomatoes Show. Adar parlayed her viral past (DO NOT google "Miriam & Shoshana") into award-winning commercials for companies including Miracle Whip, PepsiCo-Aquafina, TMZ, and al fresco. The comedy pilot, Thirty*ish*, which Adar co-wrote/directed/produced, made its World Premiere in 2013 at NewFilmmakers Film Festival in Los Angeles and won Best TV Pilot at the Mexico International Film Festival. Her most recent short film, How to Survive a Breakup, is currently available on Amazon and streaming online on Condé Nast’s The Scene. The short won the Audience Award at its premiere at the 2015 LA ComedyFest, and screened to sold-out crowds at the 2016 Santa Barbara and Sedona International Film Festivals. Its debut at the Palm Springs International ShortFest led to an international distribution deal with MagnetFilm and partnerships with Tribeca Films and United Airlines. In 2016, Adar directed, produced and co-wrote the web series, Cannabis Moms Club, which was lauded by NPR as one of “The Best Web Series on the Internet”. Vanity Fair compared its “hilarious”, “insular, stylized absurdity” to an Elaine May monologue and Culture Magazine wrote, “People will fall in love with this series...each episode is legitimately laugh out loud funny”. Adar’s most recent producing and directing credits include comedic web series for Hearst, Cosmopolitan and the American Heart Association. Her digital series for Women in Film premiered at the 2017 Crystal + Lucy Awards. Deena is currently producing/directing the web series, Baby Love, due in July 2018 and is in development on her feature directorial debut.
