Bhumika Saraswati - Sundance Collab

Bhumika Saraswati is an independent writer, filmmaker and photographer based in India. Her work has been published with various international and national news organisations like The Associated Press, The Washington Post, Independent, The Wire, The Hindu, DW and others. She received the UN-Laadli Media Award'22 for Gender Sensitive Work in 2022. Her recent documentary film, "Lives of Sex Workers and Their Children" (SCMP Films) was awarded the 2023 Human Rights Press Award, by Human Rights Watch (HRW). She is working on developing non-fiction and fiction projects inspired from real life. Her interest lies primarily in developing stories from underrepresented and historically oppressed communities like her own. The intersection of caste, gender, and environment interests her.

The women and children of New Delhi's G.B. Road are afraid to tell others where they are from. They live in the Indian capital’s biggest red-light district. The mothers are sex workers. Many say they were trafficked and forced into the sex trade with no way to escape. Out of fear of being shunned by society, the children often do not finish school. The women say they have no choice but to perform sex work to survive, but they still dream of better & humane future. (Filmed on iPhone&camera, edited on Adobe.
