Members of the Burlington High School soccer team recount the launch of their #EqualPay movement.
The players were inspired by the U.S. women’s national soccer team and their lawsuit for equal pay to create jerseys emblazoned with, “#EqualPay.” One night, BHS players celebrated a goal by pulling up their shirts to reveal #EqualPay jerseys underneath. They received four yellow cards for, “excessive celebration.” The next day, a local reporter’s story on the incident was featured in national media outlets. The story quickly spiraled and the team was featured on Good Morning America, CNN, Sports Illustrated, and more media outlets.
