About this submission

When I arrived in Chicago I was immediately drawn to the city's broken recycling program. Chicago has the worst recycling rate for any major city in the nation, and that is only the tip of the iceberg.

Ken Dunn has dedicated his life to providing sustainable waste management practices to neighborhoods in Chicago but has faced pushback from corrupt politicians and greedy corporations. Now almost 80 years old, he still fights daily to clean up the city. I hope that telling this story empowers Chicago residents to engage with recycling on a local level and keep Ken's vision alive.
