Television Directing Essentials with Rebecca Moline
Weekend Intensive
Television’s ever-changing landscape continues to be an exciting area of creative expression and employment for directors. Join television producer and director Rebecca Moline (The Good Doctor, The Irrational), as she leads this online intensive designed to demystify the art and business of television directing. Over the course of the weekend, you’ll gain expertise on what to expect, paths to getting the job, how to navigate the politics, and how to bring your leadership and your unique voice to all aspects of the job.
What you bring to the course:
- a general understanding of filmmaking terminology.
- some experience in filmmaking in an academic or professional setting.
- an interest in building a career as a director.
What you’ll get from the course:
- An understanding of the television business landscape
- What you need to know and prepare to get a directing job in television
- How to navigate pre-production, production, editorial and post-production as a director in television
- An approach to breaking down the script
- An understanding of how to “make your day”
- Approaches to casting and directing actors to get the performance you need
This course will:
- provide tools and techniques for directors.
- connect you with other directors via a discussion board where you can discuss core concepts and share your work.

A limited number of need-based scholarships are available and are considered on a rolling basis as they are received. Those who apply earlier will have a greater chance of getting support.
