When I was younger, I used to be scared of funerals and I didn't understand why it's perceived rude or disrespectful not to go, considering everyone deals with grief differently, and it's such a personal and individual subject. That's why I wanted to make a film where main character (Mateo), his sister, and mother, all react differently to the death of their father/husband. Also, since Mateo doesn't attend the funeral, I was eager to explore how this affects him and the people he loves.
