No te pierdas esta conversación con la cineasta brasileña, Jô Serfaty (Um Filme de Verão), moderada por Marta García de DocMontevideo. Esta conversación examinará el proceso de realización de películas de Jô, la noción del realismo especulativo, y el lenguaje cinematográfico de la hibridación -- la manera en cual el guión, la puesta en escena y el montaje son usados para crear narrativas entre ficción y documental.

Hybridizations: Jô Serfaty on Script & Mise En Scène Between Fiction and Documentary
A new online event in our Spanish-language series, Sundance Collab joins DocMontevideo from Uruguay in hosting a conversation with Brazilian documentary filmmaker, Jô Serfaty (Sun Inside). Moderated by DocMontevideo senior programmer Marta Garcia, this conversation will dive into Jô’s filmmaking process, the notion of speculative realism, and the film language of hybridization -- how script, mise en scène, and montage are used to craft narratives between fiction and documentary.
As an added bonus, a week before the event an exclusive link to Jô Serfaty’s documentary feature, Sun Inside, will be sent out to all registered guests.
A recording of the event with English subtitles will be available for viewing 24 hours after the event.

DocMontevideo, a documentary festival in Latin America, brings together each year more than 500 professionals from the continent for training activities, networking and exhibitions. World-renowned filmmakers participate as speakers and tutors and the main players in the market come in search of projects and talent. DocMontevideo, takes place at the end of July in Uruguay. Jô Serfaty
Jô Serfaty es una realizadora y guionista de Río de Janeiro, Brasil. A través de narrativas ficcionales, documentales e híbridas, su trabajo se enfoca en cuestiones sociales. Sus películas abordan el imaginario colectivo brasileño, creando lazos afectivos con la comunidad. Entre 2012 y 2019 ha escrito y dirigido cuatro cortometrajes. En 2019 estrena su primer largometraje "Um filme de verão", un retrato híbrido del último verano de cuatro adolescentes recién egresados de la secundaria en una favela de Río de Janeiro. La película participó de importantes festivales internacionales como Göteborg IFF, Filmfest Hamburg, Neighbouring Scenes (Lincoln Center) y DocumentaMadrid. Recibió también Menciones Especiales en Doclisboa y en el Festival de Mar del Plata. En 2020, recibió el premio a Mejor Película en L’Alternativa Festival de Cine Independiente de Barcelona. Actualmente escribe su segundo largometraje.
Jô Serfaty is a director and scriptwriter, from Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), living between Rio and São Paulo. She works across narrative, documentary and experimental modes of filmmaking addressing social issues. Her films are made up of bonds of affection - community - investigating the collective imagination of Brazilian society. She wrote & directed four shortfilms, her debut hybrid feature film titled SUN INSIDE, which is a portrait of young teenagers in their last vacations to adulthood in a slum in Rio de Janeiro. SUN INSIDE was exhibit in important film festival around the world such as; Doclisboa, Gotomborg film festival, Lincoln Center (Neighboring Scene), DocMontevideo, Documenta-Madrid, Ficvinã (Chile). The film won best film prize in the 2020 L’alternativa Barcelona in Spain and also in the 2020 Transcinema in Peru and six special mentions from the jury in the 2019 DocLisboa, 2019 Mar del plata film festival and other film festivals.
Marta Garcia
Moderator
Marta Garcia is currently the lead Programmer & Coordinator for La Semana del Documental, DocMontevideo. She has worked as programmer and cultural manager in several festivals and other projects related to film, citizenship & territories. She has been involved in the production and distribution of films in Uruguay & Spain and collaborates as a journalist in LatAm cinema. She holds a degree in media and a Master’s degree in cultural management with postgraduate specialisation in international cultural relations, migrations & local development.
