I used to work at the store featured in this film and the story is loosely based on my former boss. He had worked in this shop for almost 40 years, but over time he became depressed due to his helicopter boss, the owner, who seemed to control his every move despite never setting foot in the store. He confided in me that he had always wanted to leave but didn't know how. He retired about a year before passing away, and this film is a tribute to him finding his freedom late in life.
