In addition to unpacking Be Shootin’s unique philosophy as a creator, Free delves into the generational ties that bind a grandfather, father and son. The film tracks how our protagonist’s creative evolution is the inspiration and also the product of his complex identity. By presenting an alternative to the mass media curriculum, the linear structures of storytelling and the shallow depictions of Black masculinity, Free disrupts the status quo.
