I spent many years as a camp counselor hence I have been lucky enough to have had insight into many children’s lives, experiences, and emotions. I would hear about kids’ home lives and their struggles they didn’t yet fully understand. I could see their desire for playfulness and struggle to understand the strange logic of adults. I saw myself in them. I wanted to put this emotion into a story, and when I came across the idea of suppressing grief with playfulness, I felt the idea was something special. Something I was passionate about. Something I had to make.
