Black Ice imagines the cold, white space of the ice rink as a metaphor for the construct of race and as a container for blackness. In Black Ice the unnamed skater explores the potential for freedom, flight, and escape from the ice and from within the rink, while recognizing the limits of this artificial space. As the film progresses the unnamed skater becomes increasingly aware of the confines of the space and begins to imagine the the possibility for outside contact and connection.
