About this submission

Plagued with a violent, absentee father and a self-absorbed, alcoholic mother - seventeen-year-old Benji’s impoverished Upstate existence is upended when his arrest leads to community service. Nothing is conventional about Laura, the elusive wigmaker who works alongside him.

Working at a wig shop for chemo patients, Benji sees pain in all of his customers, but none greater than his coworker Laura’s. In their darkest of times, Benji and Laura discover a kindred spirit, and when Laura’s cancer becomes too violent to fight, Benji is faced with the most difficult question of them all: what now?
