In Advisor Studio sessions, Sundance Collab Advisors share field experiences and insights into their specific areas of craft, including writing, directing and producing for TV and film.

Now more than ever, it’s crucial to rethink our impact on the planet. Filmmaking has a reputation for being wasteful, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, it can be a driving force for activism, awareness, and meaningful social change. Let’s harness the power of storytelling to create a more sustainable future—both on and off the screen.

Join Sundance Collab for an exclusive Advisor Studio with author, filmmaker and professor Kent Hayward. His new book, Green Filmmaking, A Guide to Sustainable Movie Production, is a step-by-step look at the ways that each person in a film’s production can make simple changes to reduce the environmental footprint of moviemaking.

In this interactive 60-minute session, Hayward will focus on working with participants to create appropriate action for change where they are and in what they are doing. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and see examples at all budget levels. Whether you’re an industry veteran new to sustainability or setting out to make your first film, you’ll gain valuable insights into this new and burgeoning side of the industry. You’ll leave this event with the knowledge and power to make your own set green and inspire others to do the same.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the steps to making your set sustainable
  • Reflecting on the connections with what we do
  • Supporting the effort: Why be Green
  • Showing ways: How to be Green
  • Shaping story: Content, Development and Climate Storytelling
  • Going deeper: other ways you can help
  • Applying this knowledge to jobs in the industry
  • Changing The Future: Your stories Matter
