My brother has been in and out of prison for most of my life. Making a film about our relationship felt too personal and impractical. When I met Anthony Johnson, a man going through prison work release, I saw a way to document a complicated person’s life in real time while also touching on the same struggles I saw in my own family. HUSTLE is a verité documentary inside the world of Anthony Johnson, a work release recipient, who spends his days as a courier in New York City and his nights incarcerated.
