What are mangroves? Mangroves are nature’s coastal guards, ensuring the nutrient cycle of the sea while maintaining coasts by reducing land erosion. They are also great carbon sinks, isolating carbon at a rate two to four times of tropical forests. They are also one of the world’s most threatened ecosystems. More than one-third of the world’s mangrove forests have disappeared in the past 5 decades. In India this percentage goes up to 40 – 50%. Closer home, Mumbai lost nearly 40% of its mangroves in just a decade (1991 - 2001). Native inhabitants of these mangrove forests who’s lives depend upon these very forests are anxious about their future, and so should you. Why? Because mangroves are the only thing stopping from Mumbai going underwater. This movie traces the voices of these native inhabitant communities, we must listen to these voices if survival is to remain option at all.
