I intended to explore how one could transition from an objective reality to a felt psychic space. This was of interest in relation to how the gaze can be an act of violence; thus, I wished to convey a sensorial embodied experience of reacting to said violence. There is loss of innocence associated to the realization that one is being surveilled and observed; especially at an age where one wishes to let go. This film is an experiment into the subjective, particularly within a medium that does not inherently lend itself to the internal.

The Murmuring Deep is a sensorial experimental short film, driven by the existential, epistemological, and scientific. Through a biological lens, we delve beneath the illusion of order into the ecstatic chaos that lies under all.

There Must Be Something Out There

This film - a work-in-progress - centers hostile suburbia; the dissonance and angst created by a place that makes traversing the landscape as an individual seemingly impossible. It is a road movie without a car, where the central character, Anis, attempts to meander through this beautiful but desolate expanse. At the heart of this piece is the friction between personhood and place. Our individuality is often entirely dictated or shaped by external forces but in this film, Anis rebels. She refuses to conform to the constraints of the landscape choosing instead to embrace impulse, uncertainty, and risk.
