On her way to work in 2020, my friend was almost kidnapped by her Uber driver. In the span of two years, Uber had 6,000 assault claims against them. Ride share companies don't do enough to protect women from predatory drivers, resulting in an epidemic of assault that continues to go unaddressed.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s work as a feminist author inspired me to write a modern version of one of her most notable pieces. The Yellow Wallpaper is a compilation of Charlotte’s personal journals, detailing a time where she was confined to one room, to cure her nervous depression disorder. Charlotte witnesses a woman trapped within the walls and decides to let her out. The journals give us a glimpse into her loneliness and comments on our understanding of mental health. The Yellow Wallpaper remains relevant today, and our rendition aims to explore the expectations of a 21st century beauty queen instead.
