Robert is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker and consultant who works with incredible people and organizations to build power and create change through story. His background includes a JD from Yale and an MFA from USC CNTV. His work as a documentary filmmaker has focused on immigrant communities: SAIGON, USA with Lindsey Jang, about generational conflicts in the Vietnamese American community in Southern California; GRASSROOTS RISING with the Visual Communications team, about labor issues and the Asian American community in Los Angeles, and CHILDHOOD IN TRANSLATION, about the impact of language barriers on immigrant families.
These projects have been funded by public television entities such as ITVS and CAAM as well as foundations. He also consults for funders, including the Ford Foundation’s JustFilms team. Robert recently served as the board chair of Global Action Project (a seminal youth media organization in NYC) and is on the leadership team of the Asian American Documentary Network.
