I wanted to tell a story about violence in relationships because it is too common of an experience for many women. Because of this, I wanted my female protagonist to defeat her abusive boyfriend and for her friend to support her actions. I made this film to encourage women to protect themselves and seek help during an abusive relationship and I also want to encourage others to support women who have suffered abuse.

This story is very personal to me as it is about a college student dealing with the intersectionality of her culture and sexual identity. I wanted to tell this specific story because it is not often that Indian women get to see themselves represented in cinema, therefore I wanted to tell a story that brown women could relate to on some level and see themselves as the titular protagonist, Gayatri.
