Monique Sorgen
Monique Sorgen is a French-American writer-director who uses comedy to upend the cultural expectations of a woman's place in society. Raised in an idealistic hippie house, then disillusioned by the realities of the world, her voice is joyfully cynical, and her projects are fun but thought provoking.
She is a fellow in the Sony Directors’ Program, BlackMagic Collective, and Alliance of Women Directors’ Directing Actors Lab. She’s written & directed multiple award-winning comedy films, including Sorry Not Sorry, Rock A Bye Baby, and Lying is Complicated, award-winning drama, Random Check, and award-winning sitcom Codependent Socks! about her family, but starring sock puppets. She has also directed reality series and music videos, and is currently in post-production on her first feature One Day in Sedona, which has been recognized by ScreenCraft Film Fund and has fiscal sponsorship with From the Heart Productions.
Simultaneously, she just completed her Vertical Microdrama series debut, My Hot Ex-Boyfriend Moved in Next Door. As a screenwriter, she has developed with Imagine, DiNovi, USA/UCP, Morgan Freeman’s Revelations, and David Oyelowo’s Yoruba Saxon, among many others, and works in TV. She also hosts the WGAw’s podcast, creates political messaging with The Writers Brigade, and co-founded GenXX Initiative for the women directors of GenerationX.
