Maggie Talbot-Minkin

Maggie Talbot-Minkin is a screenwriter and director who came to film by way of theater. As an actor for most of her young life, Maggie grew increasingly frustrated by the lack of compelling female characters that she saw onstage and onscreen. In her junior year at Occidental College, Maggie switched her undergraduate major from Acting to Playwriting, and went on to write a one act play that was selected for the college's highly competitive New Play Festival.

Maggie then received a Certificate in Screenwriting from The New School before attending the Columbia University MFA in Screenwriting and Directing program, where she was awarded the Hobson/Lucas Screenwriting Fellowship, and graduated with Honors. Her recent film, Rabbit, has played at several national horror festivals where it has won such awards as Best Female Filmmaker, Best Ensemble, and Best Screenplay. Maggie will be interviewed as a featured director on an upcoming episode of the Wildsound Film Podcast. In May 2023, she won the inaugural William Goldstein Award for Screenwriting. Her latest film Our House received a Patron’s Circle grant from Blumhouse Studios via Seed and Spark, and an Audience Award at Columbia University Film Festival. In 2024, Maggie was a co-winner of the Launch Fund Award from Netflix producer Geoffrey Quan.

Maggie focuses her work on female-driven horror films, with a particular affinity for female villains and antiheroes. Her films aim to unpack the terror, beauty, power, and violence of moving through the world in a femme body.
