Cheetahs and Wildebeests

I spent a majority of my childhood at my cousin's in Fontana. They were my introduction to many aspects of life. One of which, teenage pregnancy. I harkened back to the early/mid 2000s, when I heard my cousin got pregnant. How despite all the setbacks in their life, they decided to keep the child. What led to that decision? So explored in this film, is someone who chooses not to keep their child, realizing they can't sustain a life at that point in theirs. And that's okay. But coming to terms with that, isn't so easy.

Dalila's Salon

This film is inspired by Antonia, the woman who used to cut my hair up until her recent retirement. I would follow her wherever she would go from swap meets to salons to her apartment. Each visit felt like an escape from the weight of the world. Each haircut felt like a visit with family, a moment of comfort. This film aims to capture the stress of a bad hair day contrasted with the warmth and love a salon/barber shop can offer. A testament to their role in building community and character.
