I was one of the particularly lucky Americans who lived in New York City between March and May of 2020. For a period of three seemingly never ending months, I was rendered stagnant - unable to distract myself from the poor mental health I had long masked with the comfort of constant activity. Enter The Cenozoic Era, which is not a film about the global pandemic, but one that could not exist without it. What if the most insignificant day in the lives of our protagonists ends up being the single most significant day for all humankind?

In April 2021 I took a trip to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. One hike coincided with the first beautiful day of spring, and I wondered about who the first human or human type species to wonder about a God was. This film is a result of that question. One fun tidbit: my film's protagonist is a Caveman played by John Wachlarowicz, a modern day nomad who lives in the woods. We met while location scouting.
