Joey Ally is a filmmaker raised in New York City, based in LA.
As a director, Joey's work includes shorts MINIMUM WAGE (PSISF 2015), PARTNERS (Sundance 2016), JOY JOY NAILS (Tribeca 2017), two episodes of Women in Film's gender parity satire "Flip the Script," and a corporate spoof of "The Office" she made for WME|IMG, for which she won "Video of the Year 2015". As an actor, she recently co-wrote and starred in dark comedy ARE YOU STILL SINGING for Turner and Refinery29’s Shatterbox program, which screened at TIFF and BFI:London.
She is the 2019 recipient of the The Adrienne Shelly Foundation Women Filmmakers Grant on behalf of the Sundance Institute, as well as an alum of the American Film Intstitute Directing Workshop for Women, Tribeca/Chanel “Through Her Lens”, the AFI/Fox Directors Lab, Universal Pictures Directors Intensive, and the Sundance Institute Screenwriters lab, Directors Labs, Creative Producing Summit, and Catalyst. Her work has been featured across the internets including by The New Yorker, Vimeo Premieres, Indiewire, Slate, Short of the Week, Vulture, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Elle, and Bustle. She is currently at work on her feature debut, THE HATER, which she wrote, and will be directing and starring in with Pulse Films producing.
Joey has driven straight across America three times, and is learning to enjoy "sports" for the first time in her life. She loves film, and believes it can change the world (or else what's the point?). She is represented by WME|IMG and Good Fear Film + Management.
