Taste of Victory interests me as a character study of being an outsider. I want to get into the head of someone willing to do something embarrassing and disgusting in front of a national audience -- to be a sideshow -- in the name of glory, competition, and superlatives. There is a human truth in the world of competitive eating and I want to explore that while having a good laugh at its inherent absurdity. Can we laugh with and at this guy while understanding his humanity?
