My Work
Out of Season

I chose to tell this specific story to shed light on the often misunderstood world and identity of the 'White Texan.' When thinking about the cultural divide in Texas and in the capital city of Austin, I realized I needed to craft a story that spoke to all audiences about how we can come together after initially feeling worlds apart. By using a universal feeling but a personal incident of loss that happened in my life, I tried to convey the message of brotherhood and reconciliation.
Set Me Free

Born and raised in Hong Kong to a white, Texan mom and a straight-laced Chinese Dad, I began to struggle with my identity. I didn't know which parent I should listen to, what goals I should set for myself, what lifestyle I wanted to live, and quite frankly - if I should love the state of Texas or not. While Asian-American representation is rare in film today, this story, set in rural Texas, provides a unique look and fresh perspective of Asian-American struggles that haven't been seen before. It happens to be my story as well.
