My grandmothers passed within 6 months of each other. I never got a chance to really speak with them as my parents had complicated relationships with them so there was little contact. Both grandparents were immigrants from Guatemala and Germany. They escaped war, poverty, genocide, and other generational traumas. Watching my parents grieve their loss and wanting to heal the divide in some way, I created my first short. Comedy helps me heal and witnessing the funny moments that came in their passing propelled me to make something that contained both light and darkness.
