DuBois Ashong

DuBois Ashong is a Ghanaian & African American filmmaker, writer, and director based in Los Angeles. A graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory, his work moves between feature films, television, and commercials, often exploring family, spirituality, horror, history, and the unseen forces that shape people.

His acclaimed short film Where The Water Runs won Best Short Film and the Audience Choice Award at BlackStar Film Festival, as well as Best Short Film at the Smithsonian African American Film Festival. He directed “Heirloom,” an episode of Two Sentence Horror Stories, currently streaming on Netflix, and recently completed his feature directorial debut, Geechee, starring Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough and Emmy Award winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach. He is also attached to direct The Ninth Ward for Blumhouse.

DuBois is a recipient of the Franklin J. Schaffner Award and was selected for Ryan Murphy’s HALF Initiative. In addition to directing, he teaches and has worked as an instructor and mentor with the Latino Film Institute and Sundance Collab.
