It's TYRONE'S (12) first day at a private Catholic school. He is the only black student. His father wants him to stay focused, despite distractions. Tyrone creates a masterful drawing of a Black Jesus in class. Classmates tease him. Upset and questioning himself, Tyrone throws it away. The bullying escalates. Tyrone scrubs his face, covering it in a layer of soap: whiteface. At his lowest, Tyrone must find hope and return to his true self. Scrounging through the trash he retrieves his drawing. He holds it close. Finally, he hands it to his dad, who is proud of him.
