David J. Buchanan

David J. Buchanan is a Minneapolis-based writer/director dedicated to creating allegorical cinematic experiences. His artistic journey began in 2005 at the age of 14 with documentary filmmaking focused on community stories in Minnesota. This early work evolved into narrative films, including Rideshare, See You Soon, and the acclaimed feature film BLACK aka BLACK in Minneapolis (available on Amazon, iTunes, and Vimeo). Recognized as a 2020 McKnight Media Artist Fellow and a 2022 Catalyst Story Institute alum, Buchanan's screenwriting has also garnered national attention (Top 10% Nicholl 2021, LA-optioned screenwriter 2014, and Quarterfinalist in Final Draft's Big Break 2013). Today, he continues to work as a creative director for his production company, We-Co Films, where he continues to create high-concept, allegorical stories.
