Danielle Lessovitz

Writer / Director

Danielle Lessovitz is a New York City based writer/director for film. After completing her undergraduate training in documentary film at Northwestern University, she traveled across the US and abroad before moving to New York to pursue her Master’s in Film Production at NYU where she received a fellowship for her studies. Her first feature writing endeavor, MOBILE HOMES, premiered in Directors' Fortnight at Cannes in 2017. In 2019 she became part of the first wave of female independent filmmakers from the United States to have their directorial work invited as an Official Selection of Cannes - in Un Certain Regard for her debut film PORT AUTHORITY. Her films have been exhibited in over a hundred international film festivals such as Cannes, Torino, Vancouver, Busan, Haifa, Mumbai, and Melbourne. She has been nominated for awards including the Camera d’Or, named one of the top emerging directors by major publications, and have been awarded grants such as the Cinema Du Monde from France’s Centre National du Cinema and The New York State Council of the Arts. Her work has had nationwide theatrical releases and has shown in galleries and museums like the MOCA in Los Angeles, MOCADA in Brooklyn, Painted Bride Art Gallery in Philadelphia, and the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, and on television and online platforms such as PBS, Ovation, Netflix, Nowness and MUBI.
