My Work
Hardly What you Want to Hear
Creator: Christine Marshall
Growing up hard of hearing, I had awful tinnitus and struggled to understand what people were saying much of the time. One night, I had a nightmare that someone had gotten on my hearing channels frequency, and thus, "Hardly What You Want to Hear" emerged. As a now deaf individual and director, I wanted the viewer to experience hearing aids eerily, and I am proud to have had a mix of deaf and hearing talent both in front of and behind the scenes.

"What is your love language?" someone asked me. "Language," I quickly responded. Growing up a Deaf person whose language in both English and ASL was significantly delayed, I spent 13 years in speech therapy and spent a lot of extra time catching up. I have never seen speech therapy represented before. I believe one of the most valuable ways to show love to your disabled partner is to make accessibility not feel like a burden. Deafness can be lonely, and communication is healing.
