In "Fishbowl," Grandma Guo's story exists at the forefront of an experience that is otherwise often buried - that of our Asian elders who migrate to the U.S. in the footsteps of their children, who fight off the loneliness and loss of agency that comes from growing old, and living in a foreign place. Growing up at the intersection of being Chinese and American, I wanted to tell a story that came from that intersection, one I saw in my own grandparents. This story speaks to the lack of Chinese female perspectives—especially of our elders—and intergenerational dialogue within immigrant families.
