I wanted to approach a domestic scenario like two young girls being left home alone as a horror film. Often these times in our life, while simple, uncover the secrets we try to hide and the challenges we struggle with. If you grow up in the alley, tornadoes are a huge part of life, especially in the spring. I saw an overlap between this coming-of-age moment for Monica and what it takes to survive a natural disaster. As someone who grew up with an alcoholic, abusive father, I strive to tell raw stories that leave you an aftertaste of hope.
