For my mother, fashion was an escape: from silk blouses to shoulder-padded blazers, these pieces were her way to boldly affirm her place in America, even when she was told to shrink herself. Passing down her clothes to her daughters, we now wear these pieces as a way to connect to her and our roots as Haitian women.
