These FAQs include information about both the application process and the course that selected participants will attend.

You will need a free Sundance Collab account that includes your first name, last name, and email address.

Then, you will be asked to provide the following information and answer the following questions in the course application:

  • Phone Number
  • TikTok Handle (if relevant)
  • Current City and Country of Residence
  • Bio (up to 1200 characters, include previous credits and relevant education, if any)
  • What are your goals for the coming year? (up to 600 characters)
  • What interests you about this format? (up to 600 characters)
  • Tell us about your micro-series idea that you would work on if selected to participate in this course. (up to 600 characters)
  • Work Sample as Writer (no more than 3 pages, submitted as a PDF)
  • Password (if applicable)

No, there is no fee to apply.


Everyone at least 18 years of age is eligible to apply.

Yes, college/university students are eligible to apply for this program.

This program is open to artists from anywhere in the world. English proficiency is a requirement as the course will be conducted in English. 

Although creative partners cannot participate in this course as a team, both writers and creators can individually apply for the course.

No, we only accept one application per person.

Due to the volume of applications submitted, we cannot accept any requests for revisions.

When reviewing applications, the Sundance Collab team considers each applicant’s goals, creative work, and project idea, while also aiming to build a diverse and collaborative cohort. Applicants should be prepared to meet the time commitment necessary and actively participate in the group learning experience.

This four-week, live online course is focused on writing and developing original micro-series for digital audiences and will cover:

  • The format and the mindset
  • Concept, character, and genre
  • Writing your logline and pilot
  • Structuring your series and hooking your audience

This will be a virtual course made up of live, online sessions. These sessions will take place over Zoom.

The cohort will meet online via Zoom at the following dates and times:

  • Week 1: Tuesday, July 21, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. PT 
  • Week 2: Tuesday, July 28, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. PT 
  • [No Class on Tuesday, August 4]
  • Week 3: Tuesday, August 11, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. PT 
  • Week 4: Tuesday, August 18, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. PT 

Yes, you are welcome to take the course even if you can’t make the live sessions. Recordings of each session are available online within two business days so you can keep up with the course lectures.

Participants will have access to the recordings for one year following the last class session. 

All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. The certificate will include the name associated with your Sundance Collab account.

You can find any courses that you are enrolled in or have already completed in the profile section of your Sundance Collab account under “My Courses & Events”.

You can join a course via a computer or mobile device. All of our live, online courses are conducted via Zoom.
