I played checkers with my Granddad every Monday night from when I was 8 years old to the end of eighth grade. He beat me every time, and I never got the chance to win. The film is a release, attempting to concretize and explore how much his memory and our games still haunt me. As I grew older, I watched the earthquakes in his hands worsen and his Parkinson's steal his voice and mobility. And it broke my heart. I made the film for myself and to show my family how much he meant to me.
