Xia explores loss and memory, grief and growing up. It follows a guarded, earnest, and overworked mid-20s Chinese American boy who has seemingly achieved his goals yet feels inexplicably hollow. He attempts to confront his grief by making a very special dish for a work potluck.
The film is but 5 minutes of gentle score, sparse dialogue and dreamlike visuals, but I hope by the end, you’ll want to pick up the phone and call your nai nai, halmeoni, abuela, ayati, nonna…
