I felt on the fringe of the Black Lives Matter Movement: a Black man privileged enough never to have experienced those atrocities. Yet, I was still afraid of the officer across the street. As I explored that fear, I began to understand this internalization as another harm racism inflicts. The image of a blank canvas tormenting a black artist felt the most poignant way to express this contradiction I carried. Even through the struggle, even through the pain, I hoped Rania's battle can end as one small step forward. I shot the film in 2021, but completed it in 2025.
