About this submission

We Are the Stars is a docu-fantasy film that blends fiction and documentary to create a fast-paced, intimate portrait of contemporary queer youth. Following a group of queer friends of color on New Year’s Eve in rural Vermont as they try to reach a rave, the film explores chosen family as a shared culture defined by language, movement, and care. Grounded in fashion, pop culture, and lived experience within a rural context, it centers queer joy and messiness in spaces where queer people are rarely depicted, privileging the journey over the destination.
